Why it works

Traditional small arms training involves telling trainees what to do before they do it.

This is inefficient at developing skills that can be applied under combat conditions because most of the brain functions that are required during combat are not used during skills training.

The result of decades of applied research into the neuroscience of learning, NURO brings the visuomotor demands and cognitive chaos of combat to the skill development process.

"NURO is not just a product of the present; it is the future of tactical training, leveraging the principles of neuroscience to revolutionize the way individuals at all levels of the industry learn, train, practice, and test their tactical skills."
Justin Smith, Ph.D.
Founder, Tactical Neuroscience

NURO Device

Shape Projection Lenses (Two (2) Pictured) Not Included

Project | Control | Router | Programmer | Shot Detection | Analytics

The NURO® Device is a wirelessly networkable, user programmable combat skills training tool.

Every NURO features four different networking configurations for maximum flexibility in training layout and range control as well as five different modes of operation to match virtually any training requirement.

Start training in seconds with over 270 pre-loaded shooting drills, divided into 65 drill lists to match a wide variety of different skill development and decision-making training applications.

Custom drills to meet any desired training requirement can easily be created by users—directly on the NURO device. Drills can either be run individually or grouped into lists that can be run sequentially or randomly based on the user’s requirements.

User-created custom drills may be exported from the NURO device and either centrally managed and run across any number of NURO arrays from a tablet or pushed to the onboard memory of other NUROs (iOS Application required).

NURO’s robust, weather-resistant design features three lasers, an audible buzzer, onboard shot detection and recording, a mode for data analytics, and a standard 1/4″ female connection that facilitates unlimited flexibility in mounting and placement.

Each NURO device functions as an extraordinarily versatile, highly capable, stand-alone training system for live fire, dryfire, and simulated weapon applications.  However, the real power of the NURO System lies in its networking capability.

Multi-NURO arrays facilitate easy creation of multi-directional, three-dimensional training environments with virtually no limits on configuration or application.

Each individual NURO device is capable of wirelessly controlling up to four additional NUROs without the need for any external networking equipment. This feature allows for up to a total of five NUROs working in a single, wirelessly networked, training array without any requirement for any additional equipment.

With the addition of external routers and other networking tools as needed, the NURO System was designed to scale to dozens of devices in a single array with the potential to scale to over one thousand centrally managed NURO projectors.

These capabilities allow for virtually limitless configuration and application, enabling NURO’s ground-breaking training capability to be implemented at any scale, in any environment.

NURO firmware can be updated by the user using the iOS tablet application. All NURO updates are always free of charge.

Discover for yourself what all the fuss is about.

The future is NURO.

Each NURO device requires two (2) 123a batteries (not included).

Shooter Isolation Tool (ISO)

Individual Shooting Performance Data in Group Settings

The ISO Tool is an optional, Low Energy Bluetooth, sensor array intended for weapon or body mounting. ISO detects shots from an individual shooter, while ignoring shots from other shooters. It then provides that information to its controlling NURO device for individualized reporting and analytics on each individual shooter, for every repetition.

ISO’s adjustable sensitivity allows it to function with both live-fire and simulated weapons (e.g., airsoft, UTM, Sim).

Using ISO means that every individual student can receive shooting performance feedback such as response times and shot splits on every repetition, in every training environment. This previously impossible capability opens up ground-breaking improvements in learning potential during group training.

ISOs do not require active communication with the control NURO to either initiate a training event or drill, nor to record shot data. Active communication is only required after the individual drill or event ends, when data is pulled back to the controlling NURO.

This design enables virtually unlimited options for mobility and use of terrain without sacrificing the ability to record, analyze, and evaluate shooting skill performance data on every repetition.

Up to four (4) ISOs can be paired to a single control-configured NURO. This allows for multiple relays without swapping hardware between shooters as well as simultaneous data collection and analysis on multi-shooter engagements.

ISO firmware can be updated by the user using the iOS tablet application. All ISO updates are always free of charge.

Requires a control-configured NURO and one (1) 2032 battery (not included).

Shape Projection Lens (DOE)

Project shapes to Add Context and Cognitive Load

The optional shape projection lenses (Diffractive Optical Elements or DOEs) simply screw in directly over each laser port on the NURO device. A rotating bezel on each lens allows for user-adjustable shape orientation.

The NURO System was engineered to provide stimulation to combat-relevant sensory systems and processing centers while also measuring combat-relevant aspects of shooter performance.

Shape projection lenses were designed to allow the NURO System to stimulate visual and processing centers for functions such as low-level object recognition and partial object reconstruction neural circuitry. Shape projections also provide trainers additional methods of adding context and cognitive loading to skills training as well as for creating drills and scenarios of varying visual and cognitive complexity.

Distances listed for each lens are for a shape size of roughly 22-30cm at the listed distance.

For example, a 10M Hand lens will produce an approximately 22cm hand at 10M, an 11cm hand at 5M and a 44cm hand at 20M.

Silhouette lenses were designed to enable the projection of a silhouette shape on a wall at a high angle for specialized CQB and Shoot House applications.

The high angle projection design facilitates either ground placement or overhead mounting within 12 inches of a wall. This enables rapid placement and re-configuration of a training area and maximizes compatibility with most room entry tactics, including wall flood and point of domination, while minimizing any impediments to entry team mobility or positioning.

Currently available lenses are listed below:

  • Hand 10M
  • Pistol 10M
  • Triangle 10M
  • Triangle 1M
  • Pistol 1M
  • Silhouette (High Angle) 1M
